Puri Jagannath Darshan Latest Updates
Separate queue system for Dhadi Darshan at Puri’s Jagannath temple, delayed due to Hundi relocation approvals, is likely to start on February 1. Temple administration has plans to implement the queue system for men, women, differently-abled, elderly persons and others.
Dhadi (queue) darshan system at the Shree Jagannath temple in Puri, aimed at streamlining the movement of devotees within the shrine premises, has been postponed to February 1. Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan attributed the delay to the pending relocation of the ‘hundi’ inside the Natya Mandap.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Harichandan explained that while the dhadi darshan was initially scheduled to commence on January 20, the necessary permissions for shifting the ‘hundi’ have not yet been obtained. “There are two to three permissions required for shifting of the hundi and the government is working on it,” he stated.
Exact new location for the ‘hundi’ is still under consideration. The Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation Limited has prepared the wooden structures and ramps required for the dhadi darshan system, which will be installed once the ‘hundi’ is relocated from its current position.
Dhadi system is designed to be a year-round solution to manage entry into the Natya Mandap. Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has secured approval from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to install barricades without causing any structural damage to the Natya Mandap.
According to the plan, a six-lane barricade system will be implemented within the shrine and the Natya Mandap. First lane will be designated for differently-abled individuals, the second for women and children, the third for elderly devotees, and the remaining lanes for male devotees.
Devotees will stand on an elevated ramp near Bahara Katha to get a clear view of the sanctum sanctorum deities from the Natya Mandap. Women, differently-abled individuals, children, and elderly devotees will exit through Ghanti Dwara, while male devotees will exit through Darada Dwara.
